VERIFIEDHUMAN™ Launches First-of-Its-Kind Model to Differentiate Human and AI Work in Creative Fields
 
UNITED STATES – JUNE 1, 2023 – VERIFIEDHUMAN™, a U.S.-based think tank, has launched a standards-based model to help creators and audiences tell the difference between human-made and AI-assisted work. Covering writing, visual arts, and music, the VERIFIEDHUMAN™ framework offers a practical way to protect creative integrity without rejecting technological progress.

The Challenge
 
AI tools have spread with unprecedented speed, raising urgent questions for artists, publishers, educators, and audiences. While AI can enhance productivity and spark new ideas, its unchecked use threatens jobs and erodes trust in what’s “real.”
 
“People deserve to know how creative work is made,” said VERIFIEDHUMAN™ founder Micah Voraritskul. “As FairTrade® is for coffee, VERIFIEDHUMAN™ is for creative output. It’s about creators standing up and saying: ‘I am the person who made this for you.’”

How VERIFIEDHUMAN™ Works
 
The VERIFIEDHUMAN™ model provides field-specific standards for writers, visual artists, and musicians. Creators who commit to the standards are licensed to use the VERIFIEDHUMAN™ label, signaling honesty and transparency about how their work is made.
 
Instead of relying on tech policing or copyright enforcement, the system is built on trust and accountability. VERIFIEDHUMAN™ will conduct regular verification checks and revoke the right to use the label if members knowingly violate the standards.
 
“We like the phrase ‘trust but verify,’” Voraritskul added. “Audiences want confidence in creative work, and creators want recognition for their human effort. VERIFIEDHUMAN™ gives them both.”
 
Balanced, Not Anti-AI

VERIFIEDHUMAN™ embraces the potential of AI in fields like medicine, science, and agriculture, while insisting that human agency remain central in creative industries.

“We understand publishers and businesses want to save jobs and still stay competitive,” Voraritskul said. “They can do both. Students and educators also need clarity—learning should be about thinking and expression, not hiding AI use. VERIFIEDHUMAN™ makes transparency possible.”
 
What’s Next

The organization is expanding its think tank membership, partnering with creative associations and companies, and working with third-party auditors to establish a VERIFIEDHUMAN™ Gold Standard Label.
